It
was 11:30. Sunday, August 2015. A young boy, age ten, enter the living quarters
looking for specimen AX7354. He finds it. A fairly small specimen
about 9 inches long and 1.5 inches wide. It has a valley on the underside, just
like a bridge. It has a smooth surface and what seems like large, cubed,
boulders. It is a remote. He plops himself onto the couch and turns on the TV
and flips to cartoon network. Five minutes into the program, a breaking news alert
pops up. It says the USA is called a nation of couch potatoes. He thinks. Why
should you exercise? Should you exercise?
Being active is fun, unlike watching
TV. When you are watching TV, you have a limited choice on what you can watch.
That gets everyone frustrated and worked up. Unlike exercising, you can chose
whatever you want to play as long as you like it. Another reason TV is boring
is because TVs are machines that can break. So, if you have a favorite show
that has a premiere of a new episode, but your TV is broken, you would get very
mad wasting your own time when you could be outside exercising
Why is physical activity good for you? Many
people shudder at the thought of contracting a serious illness, well,
exercising could prevent a wide spread amount of diseases, including stroke,
type 2 diabetes, and falls. It also improves mood, something crabby people like
(they don’t like being crabby). And it promotes better sleeping, so you can
wear your parents out (a child’s dream). For some reason, it reduces stress. I
know, WEIRD!
Some might not like exercising, but how
can a person exercise when they don’t like doing it? Splash the water, dance
all night or just walking is a way you can exercise without knowing you are
doing it. Or, you can compete in a competitive water gun fight! Water gun
fights are done with high levels of strategy. If you have no strategy and you
charge in blindly, you would be fighting like the generals in the civil war
(their strategies are HORIBLE).
What to do, what to do. You might not
know what to do now, but luckily, I am here to help. Are you brainy, fast, and
pretty daring? Then capture the flag is prefect for you; Capture the Flag needs
brainy people to plan the game, daring people to capture the flags, and fast
people to defend [their side]. Can you jump very high? Can you throw the ball
high into the air? Do you have good aim? Then basketball is the sport for you.
Can you run like the wind, hit balls with a bat, and throw fast balls? Then baseball
is the sport for you; baseball combines patience, agility and aim into a fun
game.
The boy turns the TV off. He thinks for
5 minutes. He opens a door and goes outside. He runs towards his friend’s
house. He rings the doorbell. His friend answers. They go outside and have some
exercising fun.
