Hi Charlie, Kato, Nicholas, Victor, and Zoe,
Welcome to our Independent eLearning class for 4th Graders!
I, along with our Assistant Coach Kelly, an Eighth Grade Honor Student of Irwin Altman Middle School in NY, will pilot your learning.
Please fasten your seatbelt. In the next few months, you’ll be traveling to the exciting worlds of poetry, fictions, history and much more.
You've been specially selected to enroll in this class. To keep your spot, you must complete each assignment. Each assignment consists of doing a project inspired from the readings assigned from our class textbook.
Now, hop on and follow the instructions below:
- Ask your parent to buy this book on kindle: What Your Fourth Grader Needs to Know by E.D. Jr. Hirsch
- Skim through the Table of Contents and the subjects you find interesting.
- Your first assignment is to introduce yourself to the class. Your introduction should include your favorite toy, color, and what you like learning about. Please email your introduction to me and Asst Coach Kelly, no later than Thursday, March 1st.
Since your next assignment will be on poetry, my introduction is a poem.
Hello from Coach Jen
White as winter’s first snow,
Putting on a magic show.
White as a cushiony cloud
That’s the hue I’m most proud.
Apps and webs on my iPod touch,
Oh, the toy I love so so much.
Math, history, science, language arts,
Mmm, what will give me the smarts?
Pray tell me, my magic crystal ball,
“It’s not one, you must learn them all.”
And now, greetings from Asst Coach Kelly:
Hi Everyone! You may not know this, but most of what humans learn does not take place in school, so get ready because you will have an amazing learning experience, you probably don’t agree with me but you will. To be honest, I couldn’t imagine anyone having fun while learning, but with Coach Jen and I, it’ll be fun. I love to go on my laptop and my favorite color is definitely purple! If you have a favorite toy or color too, I’d love to hear them. So be creative, never give up, and remember that anything is possible if you put in the effort. Hopefully you will have a bunch of fun learning!
-Assistant Coach Kelly J
Please hold on tight…three, two, one…BLAST OFF!!!
