TICKLED PINK PARKS
by THE BRILLIANT CHARLIE KIM

In our town River Edge, there are a couple of interesting places such as Van Saun County Park and Veteran’s Memorial Park. Both are on Continental Avenue and are the biggest and most visited places in River Edge. Most sports’ activities take place on the green grassy grounds of Van Saun County and Veteran’s Memorial Park.

Van Saun County Park is a lively, humongous place. You can have a barbecue party in peace. Your kids won’t be annoying you because they will be busy on the playground. Or the entire family can enjoy the Van Saun’s miniature train ride. While your family is on it, you can see animals that are rare in the fascinating zoo. A translucent pond with geese, which you can’t feed, is waiting for you at the end of the park. The pond isn’t only for scenery; residents fish there. Moreover, everyone can have a fun, tickled pink time at any one of the three athletic fields – baseball, soccer, or softball field.

My favorite spots in Veteran’s Memorial Park are the picnic areas, the baseball fields, and the snack bar. At the snack bar, I can pick from at least 30 varieties of goodies to munch on while watching entertaining baseball games. I play baseball in these enormous baseball fields on Thursdays and weekends. Many nonresidents enjoy barbecue parties in the modern picnic area. Because of pavilions, families can eat peacefully at the sanitary picnic tables without worrying about any bird poop. In addition, Veteran’s Memorial Park has a unique bench program. It allows residents to donate money to make a bench in memory of someone they loved. Furthermore, athletes can master their skillful techniques on the hockey rink, basketball courts, and horseshoe pits.

In my opinion, these aren’t really that interesting because I’ve seen better tourist attractions. However, I go there with my family and my friends, and I always have a stupendous, mind-blowing time. If you don’t believe me, I invite you to come and see for yourself!
